History
Company Values History Nome grew up in Indiana, grandson to farming Irish folk. He was bailing hay and driving tractors through nearly 500 acres of fields by the time he was six. Ever since, his fascination with plants has grown with abundance. After moving to Oregon and living in the old growth rainforests doing USFS surveying, he was taken away by the world of herbs. While he had been wildcrafting since before he could legally drive and making tinctures in his parent's garage, it was in the misty forests of Oregon that an idea for an herbal company was born. Since first being introduced to medicinal herbs doing a report on licorice root as a project in college botany, Nome has had many life changing experiences with medicinal herbs including curing many personal maladies. In the winter of 2004 came a moment in Baja California with Gabriel Howearth when Nome knew what he had to do. Prompted by Gabriel’s blessing and the increasing local support for his products and vision, Nome returned to Oregon to start Under the Yew Botanicals with Carissa in the winter of 2004. Since then the company has grown, but Nome and Carissa have always held fast to their values – providing the community and the earth with healing in all circumstances.
Into the Future As the company grows Nome and Carissa know that changes must be made to accommodate the needs of their customers, but their commitment to sustainability, organic values, and a dedication to producing the highest quality products for our customers remain at the core of their standards. Pharmacopia Herbals is proud to offer Ecologically Formulated™ products that are made from botanicals that we can grow on our farm our wild harvest in the Northwest. In some instances we collect plants from other parts of North America and Central America. Our products reinforce the fact that everything you need is already around you.
